UPDATE 10th September: US SHIPPING IS BACK!

Updated: Sep 10, 2025

What a rollercoaster ride this has been! Royal Mail has introduced a duty calculation and remittance system. This means we can calculate and pay the tariff at the point of postage. The additional charge will be 10% of the total cost of the order, plus a 50p handling charge. Unlike other carriers, because Royal Mail is part of the international postage system there are no other duties payable and you'll have no other surprises when it lands on US shored.

You'll see the 10% fee added as a separate line at checkout, and the handling charge has been included in the shipping cost already.

Original Post: Temporary Suspension of Shipments

As of today, I am temporarily suspending all shipments to the USA. This decision comes in the wake of the chaos that has kicked off in the last week or so around the upcoming changes to US import rules. Specifically, the removal of the de minimis exemption for packages shipped from the UK.

Sad times :(

Hitherto, the de minimis rule has meant that parcels valued under $800 could be imported into the USA from the UK without incurring additional duties. However, as of the end of August 2025, this exemption is set to be removed. Parcels will now be subject to either a 10% tariff or, ludicrously, an $80 flat fee, payable by the customer on arrival. Now, I know you love my yarn, but even I don't expect you to pay an extra $80 to get it.

Uncertainty Around Shipping Options

At the moment, there is very little concrete information on which of these options will be used by Royal Mail/USPS. The size of my parcels makes the courier alternatives way too expensive from the get-go. Even if they can figure out their plans in the timeframe allowed, there will likely be postal delays or even suspensions while the dust settles. For now, I simply can't, in all conscience, send parcels to my US shipping customers without knowing what awaits them at the other end.

Impact on Yarn Club Subscriptions

I know this will be disappointing for those of you who’ve been waiting to place an order or have been loyal supporters from across the pond. I'm especially looking at you, yarn clubbers. I've suspended yarn club subscriptions from my US customers for now and will be in touch individually.

A Personal Note

As I write this, I am sitting in front of my pinboard. It holds a scrappy bit of paper that has been there since 2021. On it are two lists—one of all the countries I've sent yarn to, and one with all the US states:

  • South Carolina

  • California

  • New York

  • Florida

  • Colorado

  • Maryland

  • Texas

  • Michigan

  • New Jersey

  • Illinois

  • Massachusetts

  • Ohio...

I actually missed a few in recent times, so the real list is even longer. I always hoped that one day I'd get the set. Sadly, that is looking further and further away.

Thank You for Your Support

Thank you so much, transatlantic yarn friends, for your support and understanding. I really hope to be able to start flinging yarn across the pond again very soon.

In the meantime, I appreciate your patience as we navigate these changes together. Stay tuned for updates on when shipping will resume!
